Here's a look at the two initial designs for the Fall 2001 issue of the Berkeley Scientific Journal. The theme of the issue was Astrobiology: Life In The Universe.

Here's a design that Louis came up with and the final cover that Tom and I made.

We ended up going with a cover that was more like the second cover design that Tom and I came up with, although the votes went about 50/50 for each design at the meeting where it was decided. Louis also made the lower left rough draft design, based on the second pencil sketch from the meeting. We especially thought the reflected "BERKELEY SCIENTIFIC" in the water was cool. In any case, the final cover design used mountains and a sunset that Tom and I created using a program called, Bryce, and all in all, it turned out pretty badass.
